It has been quite a long time since I wrote my first post and kept
silence till now. Actually, there are so many things to tell, so many feelings
to express, so many “wows” to describe. In this case I will try to do it in
small steps – different posts. Let me start from probably the most important
thing and purpose of my coming to Sri Lanka. That’s my job.
Incredible view, unfortunately, not from my window. |
Living diversity
I came to Sri Lanka as an AIESEC intern. AIESEC is an international
student organization which gives an opportunity to experience other cultures,
life, meet new people, travel and live a different life.
There is no better time when that one you decided to take a first step
to some changes. That’s what I wanted, what’s what I needed, what’s why I am
here.
My company is called 361 Interactive. It’s event organizing company as
a synergist. My task is to deal with MICE tourism sector. MICE (meetings,
incentives, conventions, events) provide all service a client might need while
he has a business meeting in Sri Lanka, starting from corporate events, ending with
theme nights, sightseeing, interactive bonding, cocktail parties, Gala dinner
and so forth. Lots of creativity, space to show your best, interactivity and
fun. Needless to say, that I really enjoy my work, like the company and all
challenges I have to overcome. My first impression says: there is no doubt that
I’ve made a right decision.
- your boss and colleagues would run a marathon because of your request and inspiration,
- work-mates would keep questioning how do you feel and show their care,
- you could hear an improvised song about Lithuania on your third day,
- first bad words you’ve learnt would be thought by your boss. Later the worst ones I said to one of my colleague, luckily, she understood our sense of humour,
- after every business meeting, event, team building program or any other experience executive and actual boss would ask what have you learnt, observed and how would you implement it into your work,
- you would meet with 5 stared hotel sales and marketing managers wearing a sari,
- within your work you could visit the hottest and breathtaking spots of Sri Lanka,
- at least two times a day you’d be served with a tea, eat ice creams, and curd with honey, biscuits or piece of cake.
- and you could see how clients are impressed by company's work.
In my work there are 6 men working
with me in the same room, around 11 in the company and over 30 the office. And all
of them are friendly, helpful and keep smiling all the time. And this is very
nice, so priceless, though effective and energetic. We should learn or at least
remember how to do it as well.
Couple of things to feel jealous
about
During those two and a little bit more weeks I saw quite a lot. Thanks
to my work, I’ve been out of Colombo twice. Firstly, during my first weekend me
and company went to a really beautiful place to party and socialize. There I had a chance to talk with more people,
get in touch with culture and life here. And even was surprised by getting an improvised
song about my country.
Next weekend I went to the place called Belihuloya for Team building
program. This time as a delegate I took my part into “Treasure hunting” and “Strategic
eggs” games, had a sun burn on my hands and legs, but enjoyed everything what I
experienced and already dreaming about coming back here at least one more time.

Look, this is my elbow!
And to conclude with there is one more thing to tell. Probably some of
you have heard a story about a guy from somewhere who instead or normal “hi” has
learnt how to say “Look, this is my elbow” into several languages. Well, I’m
working with him! And he has already thought me some Singhalese, starting from
normal ending, of course with some bad words (thank you Sifaan).
Life is nice until you fell so. Let’s live like Lankan people – simple,
without stress, with huge smile and sincere care of people. This makes things
easy and brings pure joy to a daily life.
There is just a breath post, but more to come.
